About Us
Seoul Singers Xmas 2006
My name is George Novinger. I have been living and working in Seoul for the past two years as the Supervisory General
Services Officer (my diplomatic title is First Secretary). I formed the Seoul Singers in JAN 2006 to create a place where
people from Korea, the United States and other countries with an interest in choral music can get together to sing and
get to know each other. I find music is a great door opener for people from different cultures to share something of
beauty and deepen mutual understanding.
I hold a Master’s degree in Music (choral emphasis) from Occidental College in California (CA), and have been a
musical director for the past 30 years for various high schools, churches and community choirs, including groups in Los
Angeles CA and Washington DC, as well as “international” choirs in Paraguay, Brunei, Tokyo, and Okinawa Japan,
countries to which I have been posted with the US Foreign Service (State Dept).
We currently number approximately 45 singers from 8 countries. We rehearse once weekly on Tues evenings from 7-9
pm. My wife Michiko helps to manage the Seoul Singers, and my 16-year-old daughter Saya sings Soprano in the
group.
We most recently gave concerts on May 20 at Yongsan Army Garrison South Post Chapel and one on May 21 at an off-
base site, DS Hall, in Gangnam.
We performed a variety of music in several (five) languages, including classical, contemporary, and folk music from
America, Korea, and other countries. Included were numbers by Bach, Mozart, gospel music, and a very interesting
musical setting entitled “Captain Noah and His Floating Ark.” Some songs were acappella, while others were sung with
piano and flute. Several members of the choir were featured as soloists.
Our upcoming concerts will likely take place the weekend of DEC 8-10 and will be Christmas music sung in a variety of
styles and languages.

1) Friday Eve December 8 U.S. Ambassador's Residence - selected program (total concert time 60-70 minutes, no intermission) - for the Ambassador and about 100 of Seoul's luminaries/VIP invitees. Not open to the public. If you cannot make it please let me know as soon as possible.
2) Saturday Eve December 9 Mission Chapel, YoungNak Church - Full program - this is our main concert that is open to the public and for which we should be encouraging our friends and contacts to join us to come and listen. If you cannot make it, please let me know as soon as possible.
The exact starting times are not yet fixed, but perhaps beginning at 7 or 7:30 pm, with "call" an hour or so early.
3) Sunday Eve December 10 Interncontinental Hotel at COEX, Gangnam - optional caroling opportunity for those who wish to entertain at the Seoul Academy International School. Exact time will be announced by Seoul Singer bass Solieman Dias. He will be passing around a signup list the next few weeks for those of you who wish to join this annual Holiday Party. Not sure about transportation; we may all have to car pool or get there on our own.
4) Mid-December eve TBA I have been talking with the Hilton Hotel (and other hotels) about our possibly singing carols/truncated program one evening for 30-45 minutes in the lobby. Again, this would be optional and subject to moving ahead or cancelling depending on how many people respond positively once we announce the exact date/venue. Good publicity for our choir and an opportunity to have some fun together at a nice place. 5) Sunday, 3pm, December 17. We will also (those of us who can make it) be singing for a church service at Young Nak Church on Sun, Dec. 17, 3pm. This will be the shortest of the three programs on our schedule.
